Applied Research, Data Collection & Analysis
Field data collection is essential to fill in knowledge gaps, and CAMRIS often provides data collection and analysis services. This ranges from health market assessments to field surveys to sophisticated analysis and modeling. CAMRIS provides data collection services in the U.S. and overseas, in areas including cancer research, maternal and child health, infectious diseases and other areas.
Example: South Africa
Challenge: To determine the prevalence and epidemiology of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis in South Africa and to enable the development of strategies to control this growing and costly public health threat.
Solution: CAMRIS, working with South African experts, carried out a nationwide study of a sample (n=18,000) of sputa from tuberculosis cases in all provinces, including strain typing. Results enabled policy and decision makers to understand the prevalence of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis, epidemiology of MDR substrains, and other operational anomalies in the handling of specimens and in the diagnosis and reporting of TB cases.
