CAMRIS Knowledge Maps example

The following knowledge map represents the knowledge of Peruvian/US organizations on alternative development programs:

Clusters of knowledge can be identified as follows:
  • High (findings frequency between 15 and 40) – Coded green in the Knowledge Map
  • Medium (between 6 and 14) – Coded orange in the Knowledge Map
  • Low (between 0 and 5) – Coded blue in the Knowledge Map
  • The knowledge map gives us information about what the state of an organization`s knowledge is, such as:

We know that we know a great deal about (ordered by most knowledge to least knowledge):
  • Illicit economic market (CFT19)
  • Individual and community farming behavior (CFT13)
  • Local economy (infrastructure, income generation) (CFT11)
  • Licit economic market (CFT9)
  • Local social services (access, use) (CFT7)
  • We know some things about (ordered by most knowledge to least knowledge):
`
  • Cross regional Peruvian analysis (CFT20)
  • Individual knowledge of negative effects of growing coca (ownership, awareness) (CFT14)
  • Peruvian institutional capacity (CFT16)
  • Environment (sustainable natural resource base) (CFT12)
  • Migration (CFT1)
  • US interventions (eradication, interdiction, alternative development) (CFT18)
  • Social networks (CFT4)
  • Local security (CFT17)
  • Predictive and aggregate model (CFT21)
  • We know little about (ordered by most knowledge to least knowledge):
  • Community participation in development (CFT8)
  • Local financial services (access, use) (CFT10)
  • Ethnicity (CFT2)
  • Technical assistance and support (CFT5)
  • Legal and regulatory Peruvian counternarcotic framework (CFT15)
  • US Budget for interventions (CFT22)
  • Land titling (CFT3)
We know nothing about:

  • Local political support (CFT6)

In short, with the classification above, we are able to "know what we know", and in consequence "know what we need to know" more about.
